AWAKEN THERAPY

Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside awakens. - Carl Jung

- Lao Tzu

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT 91089. Along with seeing clients in my private practice, I am an adjunct instructor in the Masters of Clinical Psychology program at Antioch University, teaching workshops devoted to helping budding therapists work with queer and lesbian identified women through an LGBTQ affirmative lens.

I received a Masters in Clinical Psychology degree from Antioch University with a specialization in LGBT psychology (the only LGBT specialization program in the world at the time).  During my studies, I began my training at the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center where I worked with a diverse population as an individual therapist and group therapy co-facilitator of the Transgender Men Empowerment group. I then worked for over a year at Village Counseling and Wellness, co-facilitating Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills groups for adults, adolescents and parents, and seeing individual clients in two private practice settings. I also worked on the planning committee of SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Awareness), a small group of mental health practitioners dedicated to providing education on how to be LGBTQ affirmative.

I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Emerson College, and through my work within the entertainment industry, I realized that my true passion lived within the minds and emotions of human beings. The practice of psychology and therapy gives me the space to work creatively and intellectually while experiencing the humbling feeling of watching people change their lives.

I have a wide range of experience in working with people of various backgrounds, ethnicities, sexual orientations and gender identities. Although my special interests include working with the LGBTQ community and people in the entertainment industry, my expertise is not limited to these populations. I enjoy assisting clients in managing and/or overcoming anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, painful relationship patterns, creative blocks, co-dependency, love and sex addiction, issues with intimacy and low self-esteem. I believe that our emotional world reflects our physical bodies/health, and I am passionate about mind, body & soul integration.

Outside of the "therapy room," I teach mindfulness, personal power and tapping into your intuition workshops. I have worked with many clients on embracing their intuitive voice, and digging deeper to explore their spiritual identity.

Individual Therapy

My clients and I work together, in partnership, to identify goals and embrace the power of change. Whether working with individuals short-term or long-term, I use psychodynamic theories, including object relations and attachment theory, to assist people in understanding how their past is impacting their present - both in experience and in individual beliefs. I believe that a deeper understanding and awareness of the Self and unconscious processes can assist in the individuation and self-actualization process. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy tools to assist people in changing their unhealthy automatic thought patterns and Mindfulness/Buddhist Psychology tools to help people get out of their heads so they can be more present in both their body and in their lives.

Couples Therapy

My work with couples is influenced by Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. I assist couples in understanding underlying dynamics, feelings, resentments and traumas at play. I provide psychoeducation on attachment styles and help partners learn how to communicate directly, lovingly and effectively. I create a safe space, without shame, to explore issues related to sexuality, insecurities/jealousy, infidelity, life transitions, and the common feeling of "things aren't like they were at the beginning."

Cost of Sessions

FEES:

My current fee is $200 per 50-minute session for both individual and couples therapy. If this fee does not meet your needs financially, please feel free to contact me to discuss your options or look into services with my associates who provides a sliding scale for clients with financial limitations (and is under my supervision). You may contact either of us directly to discuss your options. If we cannot accommodate you for any reason, we will put in the extra effort to help you find a great fit who can.

INSURANCE:

I do not accept insurance plans directly, but I am happy to provide you with a monthly statement (Superbill) of services rendered that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company to inquire about any possible "out-of-network" reimbursement prior to starting therapy services.

then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.
